01 Grand Am running and signal problems
I have a couple problems with my 2001 Grand Am.
First of all, when I'm cruising it doesn't seem to hold the rpm's. It fluctuates almost like it's shifting up and down. In addition, over the last month it runs rough when I first start it. Because of the fluctuation the cruise control won't work. When it changes it turns off. Here's what I've done: Had the transmission serviced Replaced spark plugs (these were a bear to do) Replaced fuel filter Replaced air filter It doesn't show anything when a diagnostic computer is attached to it, although I've not done a driving test yet, only sitting idle. Any ideas? I'm wondering if it's the fuel pump. (relishes the idea of changing that) Second. When I use the turn signal, after it turns off the sound still keeps going. That clicking sound. It will keep going for anywhere from 5 clicks to hundreds. And, I can be driving along and it will 'click' for no reason. Maybe it's just letting me know it's still alive? Anyhow, what would it take to fix this? And with there being the airbag in the steering column, is this even something I should tackle myself?

Re: 01 Grand Am running and signal problems
Welcome to AF.
Could be several things causing your surging. First I'd check the IAC located on the side of the TB. Here's a link with the test and cleaning procedures. Tips and Maintenance You didnt say whether its a 4cyl or v6 , but it could be you need wires if those werent changed. What was done to the transmission , just a fluid & filter change ? On the cruise not working have you checked any of the fuses? And on the signal switch or MFS(multi function switch) it's became a common problem. Here's a thread we just discussed this..... http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=702900

Re: 01 Grand Am running and signal problems
Ooops. It's a 6 cyl.
As far as the transmission, yes it was just a flush and filter. The cruise does work, just kicks off when the engine surges. But I have checked all the fuses anyhow and nothing looks blown. I'm going to have a computer hooked up to it tonight and do the driving test. Hopefully that will tell me something. |

Re: 01 Grand Am running and signal problems
OK, the code we got off it was P1189, which says it's the Engine Oil Pressure Switch Circuit. Anybody have any idea what that is? And where it is??

Re: 01 Grand Am running and signal problems
Yea its right by the oil filter, check the wires and plug
Your surging troubles get worse after the trany flush ?? I never recomend a flush

Re: 01 Grand Am running and signal problems
I had the same problem with my turn signals, all you have to do is take off the turn signal assembly, it goes all the way around to the wiper one too. take it apart and clean out the grease. The grease inside is allowing the current to travel when it isnt supposed to. Then put some new contact grease or whatever its called in and its good to go. I had a quote from the dealer for like 500 bucks to fix it.
