Re: Headlights

I just started trouble shooting my headlight issue and came across similiar sitiaution while repairing.

At the middle of front bumper is a relay and a bunch of wire going to it, have headlights on and move slighly the wire bunch, if this gets you a brighter light it means there is a loose contact in your relay or bad wire.

Now you can remove the left headlight and push on the pink wire( used for high beams ) and wiggle it as well, or if you have a voltmeter see if voltage if not your pink wire is broken going to headlight to switch in car.

Another note, if you DRL light is not on in dash or is flashing means a couple of issues may be at same time ( relay @ bumper or module in dash , and possible broken wire )

Re: Headlights

I am also having problem with my headlights, it always on DIM. I just got my used sunfire, 1997 with 2.2L engine. I am not sure if this is normal. Switch is ON or OFF position it has no effect, headlights always dim, cluster lights and parking lights comes on with the swicth in the ON position. High beam doesn't stay, when I released my finger the high beam goes back to low beam and its dim. Any help would gladly appreciated.

Jesse

Re: Headlights

I have seen this problem alot on these cars. It has always been a broken wire at the shrink wrap connection on the headlight wiring harness. this is located ontop of the bumper rebar. You just have to remove the radiator cover and headlights, then peel off the tape and wire loom.

Re: Headlights

I just hardwired my headlights direct to switch( pink wire ). I having working high and low but no DRL or indicator on which is on ( high beam indicator always on )

There are many spots these cables can be broken, at radiator or under the washer bottle.

Re: Headlights

I was trying to trouble shoot where the bad wire (if there really a bad wire) last Sunday. I was at the middle of trouble shooting then its started to rain. So I'll had to stop. I wasn't even sure where to start. Anyway. Do I need to ohm the connection of pink wire from the drl relay to the headlight? And yes, I have cruise control on my car.

Re: Headlights

I tried a couple wites, grounds, etc, finally I bought a $17 upgraded wiring harness on eBay and connected it to the good socket. Two wires to the batter, two wires to the ground, and wham... it works fine and passes NJ inspection.

Re: Headlights

I found out that it was my Tree Switch is broken. The swicth coz about $55.00 at the Auto Zone. If you are planning to install it yourself, be very careful becoz of the airbag might deploy.

Re: Headlights

HAving similar problem here Drivers headlight out on lowbeam works on high initially thought blown bulb, replaced no luck still no low beam. Proceed to check voltage on wiring to light socket get 12v on pin wire and on center blue wire but nothing on other blue.

MY understandinig is the pink is for high beam operation so why would it have constant 12v when low on not high???

IS my switch toasted?

is it bad wiring?

any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated
