New Engine For 96 RS

Hi, I am new to this forum and have been reading the various posts. I am taking up a new hobby of cars. Since I already have many various hobbies that are expensive, why not another. Anyways, I have a 96 Eclipse RS Non-turbo. It has almost 135,000 miles on it. The inside of the car is still clean and almost perfect. I plan on keeping the car for a good while seeings I have grown to love my DSM. No problems with it at all except for minor things like getting new plugs and wires etc. It is running fine at the moment. I was wondering about putting a new engine in it seeings it is gettin very high in the mileage. I have seen and read many posts about people asking if a 4g63 will fit in and repeadately the answer is no. All I know about a 4g63 is, it is an engine that is turbo charged and it will not fit. And a 420A is what to get for a non-turbo. What is the biggest engine that can fit in the RS, or is the 420A the only one? Or what would be the best to put in and replace an engine with? Thanks for the help seeings i am new and do not know a ton about cars, but I will learn fast. Thanks again.

Re: New Engine For 96 RS

Money, time and Knowledge... if u have plenty of these three u can swap a 4g63T enigne in an eclipse RS... but god has given us to choose only 2 of the above 3 options ...and people like chaves408 lack all the 3 options (j/k).... but seriously this process is possible but for for the money u r going to spend u can rather buy a gst or gsx.. that is why the swap is not recommended... since ur rs is not giving u any problem.. why do u want to replace the engine.. just bcaz it has a lot of miles doesnt mean u gotta replace it... since u said u have a lot of expensive hobbies i assume that u got a lot of time and money.. so i would advice u to buy a gsx and have a fresh start most of the ppl here will agree with it... and to answer ur question YES only the 420A can be replaced for ur 96 rs...

Well I dont have a ton of money, but I do have time. I am in college so I have more time than money. The reason I was asking about the new engine in the RS is it has ran up and down the road alot. I was wondering what I could start with to mod my car etc. I have had it for a while and never really done anything with it because I don't know where to start. So lately I have just really gotten the urge to learn about the internals of cars more and other stuff. I know about speakers, computers, all kinds of different things but not much about the inside of cars and its time that I learn. I was just wondering about advice on what I could do with my car seeings it is non-turbo and has high miles on it. Thanks for the help and advice. I like the looks of everyones cars i have seen posted on the threads.

Re: New Engine For 96 RS

here is a web site if you plan on doing the internals everything is forged. go to the rebuild kit a choose the hp kit option. I am doing this rebuild for my 95 RS.
http://www.importperformanceparts.net/
HRC also has a lot of info about the RS. They clam to hold the record for the fastest RS. Star turbo kits are also good for the price. It is all up to you.
I got stuck with the 420A might as well make the best of it!!!!!!!!!!!!
