98 daytime lights won't go out
Today I jump started my truck with the taurus when I was done I noticed the lights were on even though the switch was off. I have had this car for two years never new it had day time running lights before. they never worked before. So now they work but won't shut off even when the key is out of the car. found and removed fuse on the DLR but that seems to only be a temp soulution. would like any suggestions?

Re: 98 daytime lights won't go out
Hello, I have the same situation. I have no idea what caused the problem, but the daytime running lights will stay on no matter what I do. The only way I can get them off is to disconnect the battery. I want to fix the problem, but right now I would love to know what the "DLR" is so that I can pull mine as well until I get a proper fix.
Thanks |

Other than changing your DRL module, a cheap way to keep your daytime running lights working, is to install a relay (Normally open side of it) in series with the DRL fuse. And power the relay with your auxilary off your ignition. This will act like a switch that is open when the ignition is off. Make sure your relay is a heavy duty relay (30 amps or so, they sell them for fog light installation).
I personally have just pulled the fuse. They didn't look at my daytime running lights when they ran my last safety, so I didn't have to fix yet. When they notice them not working, that's how I plan on fixing. |

Re: Re: 98 daytime lights won't go out
On my car the DLR is right in the front of th car follow the positive battery wire from the battery and it splits to a smaller wire wich runs to the dlr
long black box pull top off and there is a bunch of fuses and relays. I found a diagram for it in my cars manual to tell me wich one is wich |

found the fuse and it is pulled. Now I can drive the car without the daytime running lights on. A guy on another post had the same problem. He said the correct fix is to replace the DRL relay which is under the passenger fender and is attatched by one bolt. I havent had a chance to check for this yet, but will when I get home. He also said that it is a $200-300 fix in a shop but that he recently bought the same part from ebay for $20. I will be checking there for the part, but hopefully we wont have to bid against each other. LOL. Thanks for the help.
