Well it's easily the hardest B-Body I've done yet... Let's see... The Olds
Custom Cruiser has most of the Caprice's body work, but has the Roadmaster's Vista Roof... It was built using a Modelhaus Buick Roadmaster kit for that reason, but I had to hack the body off in front of the front doors, and graft on the front end of a Revell Impala SS, because it was easier than completely changing the Roadmaster's front bumper and grille area. Plus, he wanted an open engine bay, so that was easier anyway. I also cut and modified the C-pillars to match the Olds/Chevy ones.
The colour is GM Dark Sapphire Metallic, just like the real car, with medium adriatic blue interior. The wheels are from a Toyota kit of some sort, but look almost the same as the real car's, except being scale 16" wheels instead of 15". The engine is out of a Revell Caprice police car kit, using the Throttle Body-injected 350 instead of the LT1 from the Impala.
The grille took about a week to fabricate, using 64 individual pieces of .010 x .030 styrene strips. I basically laid them, on edge, over top of a sanded smooth Caprice grille. There's a couple of tiny errors you can see right up close, but it looks great from 50 (scale) feet.
It's complete, other than the
custom license plates.
Oh, and upon taking the pics, I just realized I forgot to paint the washer fluid jug or the coolant tank. I will do that now.
