All right guys... Help! lol
No really, I can-not have this happen to me right now.
![]() So, I just got a job, going to work, pulled up to a speed-bumb, STALL/CE light comes on. Hmm... She started right back up, parked her sorry ass. (I'm mad at her right now )At lunch I go straight to get her scanned. After another 3 STALLS and restarts on the way, we come up with a P0700- CAN-BUS no communication with TCM. And a P1694- No CCD messages recieved from the ECM. Great. I drive back to the shop with no more incidents, finish my day, and get in to drive home. (35 mins hwy.) No more CE light on, (the code was not cleared), and make it back without a single sputter. HMM......... . . . .. . ![]() That's what I've got. Help? Intermittent(sp) CPS??? |

Re: All right guys... Help! lol
I'd check connections leading to and from the computer to make sure everything is tight, not corroded, and connected.
Have you replaced your CPS in the last 90K? If not, that could be part of the problem.

Re: All right guys... Help! lol
I don't know about the CPS's replacement. I get her @ 96K/mi, and we're @ 99.7K(<-sp?) now. I'm not wanting to throw parts at her.
I've got this link, http://www.lunghd.com/Tech_Articles/...iagnostics.htm for the Renix models, but would that CPS info apply to my '98? |

Re: All right guys... Help! lol
I would look at the Transmission Control Module.....or the power train control module. Make sure the harness connections are secured. I would disconnect and reseat them first. Then clear the code and drive it.
Come to think of it, I think I had a P0700 on my last long trip. I was going up a mountain and I was really stressing it and the CEL came on and it lost power. I took it easy and got to where I was going and cleared the code the next morning (I carry a code checker with me on trips.). NO reoccurance since. |

Re: All right guys... Help! lol
The strangest thing is that it's cleared the code on its own twice now, when I restart. I don't know what to make of it.
Where are the modules at, on the TC/tranny? Or do I have to go digging inside? |

The TCM is under the dash on the left side (in the LHD model). The connector, however is under the hood in middle and comes up from the transmission harness. Look in back of the engine from the passengers side.
![]() Another possiblility is the Powertrain control module, located under the hood. It is about 12 inch behind the left headlight. |

Re: All right guys... Help! lol
^#*!@%!%#&*()!!!!! It turns out that the headers I put on were contacting the wires to the ( crankshaft position sensor ) CPS. Melted right through the loom and down to the wire about 1 1/2" long where it was hitting the 'heat'.
I guess the CPS was grounding out and causing the PCM to fail-safe itself. WHAT A PITA that thing is to get out! I'll not have those troubles again though. After getting the blasted thing out, I could see the extent of the damage and decided to try to fix it rather than spend the cool C-note. So I broke out the soldering iron and went at it making sure to cut out any corroded areas out of each lead. Some shrink-wrap, elec-tape, and a new stretch of loom, (<-is that what it's called?), along with a resistance (ohm) test (should read ifinite @ a 1K-10K setting for my year-'98 [I got a 624]), and I felt good enough to give it a try... But how to get this *&&$^# thing back in there?! I came across a genious idea somebody posted. Basically this: I took the dremel tool and a cutoff wheel to the mounting holes and made nothches out of them instead so I won't have to take the bolts all the way out again. I then carefully threaded the bolts back in a little and slid the CPS back on. Tightened it up with my trusty 3/8's ratchet-10"extension-wobble-10"w/wobble extension-11mm socket. (BTW- disconnecting the front sway bar and jacking the front drivers side way-up gave me just enough room to not have to touch any other bolts to reach the CPS and it's horrible placement!) Well, all done! Thanks for all the help guys!~ Sh!t! I forgot to ziptie the wires! lol Anyway, she's running great with no codes! Gotta go! Last edited by citizen@large; 06-07-2007 at 03:37 PM. |
