Re: Le Mans Contest Entry: 2001 Corvette C5-R
2.2 Straight six (I think it's Chris, but not sure...)
Thanks for the help. Here's the ref. pic I was looking at (the pic doesn't belong to me, and sorry, but I don't have the source handy to give proper credit...) You can see how the vent hoses go from the rear duct directly into the box. So how does this really work? Is there some sort of compressor somewhere that takes this air from this 'box' and puts it into a tank somewhere? I figured those round things behind the wheels were the jacks, but didn't think they were connected to this somehow? Thanks for your help. Murray

Re: Re: Le Mans Contest Entry: 2001 Corvette C5-R
The aluminum tank is the oil tank for the engine. The airbox is for the rear end cooler. Air comes from the back deck, through the hoses, through the radiator, and then out the back of the car in the square opening. As for the airjacks, there are inlets on the sides of the car just in front of the doors for them that are hooked up during pit stops.

Re: Le Mans Contest Entry: 2001 Corvette C5-R
More progress.... (believe it or not)
Sat down last night and decided to try building a shock. Never done it before and it wasn't as easy as I thought. Cutting the tubing into thin slices wasn't easy... Well, what do ya think? Should I build 3 more, or head back to the drawing board? Murray

Wow!! That's one hellava 1st attempt. Only problem with building that stunner is everyone is going to say "build 3 more!!!!"
A tut with your techniques on the other shocks would be great if you can find the time. |

Re: Le Mans Contest Entry: 2001 Corvette C5-R
what i meant was in the diffuser you have a thing where its like a hole in the flat bottom (you also have the behind the front wheels) there's a hole in the flat underside of the car, in it there's what appears to be a "stud" a circle thingy if you will. these are air Jack/rams (like a hydraulic/pneumatic ram). when the car goes in for a pit stop, to make it quicker the crew don't use "conventional" jacks, the car has these "rams" built in which lifts it up off the ground. i cant really remeber what i meant before, but there are things like "tubes" that are the jack themselves.
oh and yea....i'm Chris |
