I have a 1997 chevy cav Rs.....and runs very well. I love my car. However, my friend has a 1995 Cav Z24 and reciently blew a headgaket. It was slightly heating up for a few days, although not to red line or anything. Also it would occasionally miss. Within a week, the head gasket blew. He was told that it was going to cost $700 for the whole replacement and that it may not even hold after all that. Well, we heard through the auto-part stores that there is a Product that is called "Blue Devil Engine & Cooling Sealant". It ranges in price depending on the availability and whatnot. I've seen it in Parts Plus stores for anywhere from 48-65 dollars. However, IT WORKS. WE RAN IT THROUGH AND FOLLOWED THE DIRECTIONS, AND NO MORE LEAK, MISS, OR OVERHEATING. IT'S WARRANTIED AND A PERMANENT SEAL. IF THIS HAPPENS TO YOU....TRY THIS FIRST BEFORE PAYING OUT OF POCKET FOR A JOB THAT MAY NOT EVEN HOLD AFTER ALL. WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO LOSE? hope this helps

Re: Have a blown head gasket? Read this.
Hmm.. Wait'll ya inadvertantly seal up a water jacket passage. All that stuff does is get stuck in small holes. Depending on how much you put in-you can plug up some holes that you NEED.
You have no idea where it's going once it's in your cooling system-and furthermore-you have no say in the matter. I just replaced the entire head on my 2.0 (cracked between the valves on 3 cylinders), and I could see all the "Bars Leaks" somebody had put in there. It's a wonder any coolant made it through the head. Hope ya one ofd the ones who got lucky. |

Re: Have a blown head gasket? Read this.
Well, On the other hand. If you knew anything about this product, or products of this type. You would know that it will not plug ports, ruin heater cores, and anything of that nature. That is not how it works. There is absolutely no solid particls in the liquid of Blue Devil. Therefore it can not clog anything.
The way it works is it reacts to a temperature and pressure differance at the point of the leak, and acts as a catalyst. Just like your blood. When it hits the air, it almost imeadatly thickens. After a few min it is normally solid. Granted there are blood clots, but that is because of stuff that is not supose to be in your blood. With Blue Devil, there is nothing in the liquid. And this is why they say to FLUSH the system first, and Rod out the Radiator. I have a 97 Cav RS with a 2.2. It has a small leaky gasket, enough to overheat. Its leaking both into the intake, and out of the head. I used this stuff and it worked great. Now i do keep some precaution. Within the next 6-12 months, I will eiter get another vehical, or repair the gasket on this one. |

I was going to just drop in a v6, but I ran out of time, so I just decided to repair the 4 banger and maybe do the v6 later...

Re: Have a blown head gasket? Read this.
Well, I just completed a flush on my cav 2 days ago. Took me longer than expected, but seems worth it right now. I took a 1000 mile drive right after. It has not overheated yet. and i only had to put in maybe a cup of coolant. Ait pockets you know. so far, this blueDevil stuff works.
anyways... $150-200 for a head gasket replacement!! Where? Everywhere i go, they want close to a Grand. It is going to need one soon. I bought my cav for $1000 a year ago, no real problems. Just needed Breaks, and a CV axel. |
