Question Sportronic or Manual

I wanna buy a 3g(duh) with a v6 and wanna play(race), the sportronic is fun but would it work with added power or is it slower than a manual(performance wise), i'd definetly sacrifice convenience for speed, but on the other hand i've heard the sport shifts quicker than any human can and that automatics multiply the torque? But ur opinions or whatever you have is much appreciated, thx

Re: Sportronic or Manual

I have a 3G GS and it's a sportronic. But mine is only a 4 banger. (*sigh). When I race, I can easily get off the line real quick while the other car is shifting through the gears but eventually they catch up with me and thats because mine is a 4 cyl.

As for both cars shifting, I would have to say that they are fairly equal. The sportronic has just a little hesitation when shifting gears and I'm think with that hesitation, you could shift into gear with a manual in the same amount of time. Torque wise, I wouldnt have an idea on that. Maybe someone else would.

In my opinion, I would go with a manual. The only reason why I didnt get a manual is because I couldnt afford the insurance. Plus, manual gives you something to do. But it all depends on what you like, so get what you want. Test drive both and see which one is better for you.

Manual in my opinion... Always makes everything more fun, and there's nothin better than a true manual with a clutch... But, if you really would sacrifice convenience for speed, then of course an auto is more convenient... But racing feels more real with a manual... Just my 2 cents...

Re: Sportronic or Manual

If you want to autoX, get the manual. Drag race, get the auto.

I prefer the manual as I like to be in more direct control of the car. Plus the autos take .6 secs to shift, where I know I can shift around .2-.3 sec. and I like to autoX, and with the manual, it is MUCH easier to keep it in the higher RPM's.

Although the regular auto (maybe sporty to) has a system called the ATS or Automatic Transmission System. Basically, the car will recognize when it is being driven hard and keep the tranmission in a lower gear and the RPM's up to allow for quicker acceleration.

Re: Sportronic or Manual

also, the horsepower loss is not as great with the manual. so it will put more horsepower to the wheels. i drive a manual and i wouldnt trade it for the world. i love having the extra control over the car. but its all what you like. if you live in a big city and ur in alot of stop and go driving, then a manual might not be that fun to drive.

Re: Sportronic or Manual

I think sportronic is horrible. It will eventually go out and cost $$$$$ to repair. mits def did not do there home work with it. If you want speed and reliability go with manual. I have sportstronic and will never again. and you could always go with the EVO

Re: Sportronic or Manual

For good power to the ground you'll notice that most all of the top line cars ( SI, Type S, VR4, EVO all have manual transmissions.... the manual gives you extra power to the ground and even though the tiptronic will shift faster, finding the right point to shift is a pain and you'd do better to leave it in full automatic mode Get the MANUAL its probably one of the most forgiving stickshift to drive

In a nutshell. I agree.
