Flexible Radio Antenna Install

I haven't found any info on how to install a flexible radio antenna. I know a few of you have installed these on your trucks and was wondering how it was done. I've had one of these antenna's floating around in the back of my truck for several months and haven't taken the time to install it.

Radio or CB

Rednec, do you mean radio or CB? I just bought a $4.99 AM/FM antenna at Rat Schak.

AM/FM stereo antenna. I'm all set on the CB antenna. I've got about 4 of them. The wife about shit when I put my old 102" fiberglass whip on my X.

Unscrew the stock metal Nissan antenna at the hexagon base. You can probably do this by hand, but a wrench can help.

Remove the antenna screw adapters from the replacement antenna kit (should be 3). All three have the same thread pattern on one side, and different thread patterns on the other side for adapting to your vehicles specific thread. Try each adapter thread until you find one that matches. Screw in the correct adapter screw.

Take your new flexible antenna and thread it onto the new thread extending from your vehicles antenna base.

That's it.

I bought mine in canada and had a problem with the threads coming off inside the antenna (the threads weren't long enough). I ended up picking some small o-rings and placed them between the Nissan base and my new antenna. This kept the threads in correct position to hold the antenna.

I think it might just be a Canadian thing. I haven't heard any US purchasers having the same problem I did.

The antenna I got is a complete replacement. I don't think it will screw onto the exhisting base. Then antenna was actually a prize that I recieved from the OBX1 trip earlier this year

Smile Radio Schack antenna

Rednec, here is the antenna I am talking about for $4.99. It has 4 adapters with it. The antenna is so flexible you can touch the tip to the base.

Rick, yours looks just like mine. The problem was that in order to turn the antenna down to touch the Nissan base you actually push the antenna past the threads inside it. If yours wobbles then I bet you can also pull straight up and it will come off the adapter threads. Small thick o-rings (I have two on mine) will allow you to tighten the antenna without slack, and still stay on the threads.

Picked mine up at Walmart. It is very similar to the Radio Shack model. Installs in exactly the same way. I haven't had problems with mine.

Question

How is the reception with the flexible antenna?
It is also interesting but my OEM antenna is always a ¼ turn lose. But never any loser and I haven’t ever removed it.
Just keep tighten it.

Flex AM/FM antennas on Ebay

I just bought a flex antenna on Ebay for $14 including shipping. Just search for "Xterra antenna." There's one guy that seems to have an antenna business and sells them for the same price every time. Don't "buy it now," just bid low. It hasn't arrived yet, let me know if you want a picture or how well it installs/how the transaction went.

Oppsy!
I sure missed this one! No # just walked into the store and picked it up. Someone said they might not be making them anymore.

The reception is the same as stock antenna.
