Coming Soon! Thermal R&D Cat-Back for Spec V
posted from B15Sentra.net:
Hey all!
I just picked up my Spec V from Thermal R&D in Canoga Park, California. They needed to borrow a Spec V to fit a cat-back system they want to produce. In exchange, I get one at no charge when they manufacture it. It is projected to be out from 3 weeks to a month, depending if the designer can get out of jury duty It is definitely coming out! I saw the prototype when I picked my car up and it looks sweet! It's definitely all stainless. There was a resonator. The first piece had a round 14"-16" long resonator. The second piece had the muffler. I think the tip is bigger than 2.5" diameter.
It will be a direct bolt on like their other cat-back systems. It will be a single round tip with 2 ¼" piping. The designer described the sound as mellow at idle. It will not sound like a "fart can". He also told me it kinda had a European exhaust note (I guess he may mean Mercedes or BMW?). Price has not been set. It is estimated to be between $500-$600. There was no price set since it was in early development. He gave me the price range of $500-$600 just to be safe. Maybe the price will be around $585.95 like it is for the 2002 Acura RSX - Type S.
The designer told me that the stock pipe diameter was 1 ¾" and was very restrictive. He was surprised that Nissan went with such a small pipe diameter with the QR25 engine.
Thermal R&D is excited to get into the Nissan aftermarket. They also want to start supporting Toyota. They just finished testing cat-back systems for the Matrix and the Corolla S.
