2003 Silverado tachometer quit working...?

I've saw this on here a couple of times but no answers yet. I've got a 2003 Silverado with 34xxx miles. The tachometer started acting crazy a coulpe of weeks ago but has completely quit working now. Can anybody tell me what may cause this problem. If you're wondering why I don't get it repaired under warranty...I bought this truck about 11xxx miles ago with slight roll-over damage, so it has a previous salvage title. The dealer told me GM would'nt cover it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, just stating the history. I would appreciate any help you can give. Thanks

I have a Tach problem with a 2001 2500HD as well. The Tach will stop working, but you can move the parking brake lever and it will start working again. Anybody have any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks

The stepper motors, which are the little motors that make the needles move, are out in the instrument cluster. You can rebuild them yourself but after all the time and very small items your are dealing with, it is easier to have the whole cluster rebuilt. To get a remanufactured cluster, you are looking at about 300.00. Dayton guages out of Dayton OH does this. I just had mine done after the speedo and fuel guage motors stopped working. For some reason this is very common for these trucks and GM has a TSB out for it if you are still under warranty.

I had The Same Issue With The Tach On My 1500HD..It Would Stick In Various Spots..Not Work..etc..I Used This Guy I Found On Ebay-http://cgi.ebay.com/CHEVY-CHEVROLET-...QQcmdZViewItem Read All The Instructions He Has..You Don't Actually Bid On This You Call Him Give Him The Mileage/Hours..etc and he programs the replacement with that info and mails you the new one..all you have to do is mail the original out of your truck before 90days or your charged a core fee..not a bad deal and took about 2days for me to recieve..very professional guy. Also not sure what type truck you have but you can replace a 1500 with a 2500 cluster to obtain the transmission temp gauge i've been told all trucks are prewired for this option..hope this helps-

carlspakler do you have a phone number for Dayton Gauges? I can't find them using a web search.

Thanks guys for the great info and the ebay ad. I checked out the ad and it seems like the way to go.

Re: 2003 Silverado tachometer quit working...?

Hey guys/gals,

I had this same kind of problem on my 03 Silverado, my speedometer, tachometer and water temp gauge all 3 quite on me!

I actually do this kind of repair work now on most all GM models from 03-06, you can see my site at http://drspeedometer.com I'm not the cheapest but I do have the best guarantee on my work.

thanks,
Fred
