Was Just Thinking

Well I have heard the news a while ago and now I'm seeing the adds. Since the F-bodies death the well know GM performance parts maker SLP has been looking for sales anywhere they can get it. They have now started making parts for the 4.6L Mustangs. So I pose this question would any of you put SLP parts on your Mustang?

I for one will never put an SLP part on any Stang I ever own. I don't care if I they make the most power on a dyno to ever other comparable part made. I will stick with one of the companies that have been there since the 5.0 revolution started. My father remembers the days when everything for a Ford cost double what it did for a GM and I do too seeing as my first stang was Carbed.

And to any GM owner who wants to reply here and say I'm just a hater of GM's... would you put a Ford Racing Part on your GM if they made one? Cause SLP is entrenched in GM no less than that.

Re: Was Just Thinking

From what I hear, the Bowtie guys aren't too happy about SLP marketing themselfs in the Mustang crowd now.

I myself will never buy or put any SLP product on a Mustang, period! I to will stick with the founders that have made the Mustang aftermarket what it is today. Those companies, have the wrench time and money invested, they deserve my support first!

WTF!!! You people are even discussing that?! Its for sure that no true car lover will put the parts of a company which has NO EXPERIENCE with his car. Its obvious that they will not succeed in marketing, i thinks its just the same as buying Honda's Cold Air Induction for a Mustang.

Thier is a differences between a company like Edelbrock or AEM. They each have a specialty but they do a broad range. Unlike SLP or Saleen where they have been a name created for themselves for 1 make/model. If they were still making new F-bodies SLP would not be making Mustang parts... So I have no interest in them.

It's the same on this side, it's like they're throwing us to the wind now that the F-body is out of production. It's not like ther aren't 100's of thousands of cars out there that need performance parts, mine included. SLP has always been affiliated with GM. SLP brought back the SS, damnit. When SLP started modifying Rangers, the new Impalas, and Montes, I knew that they were really reaching. I think you all are right, there's so much history between GM and SLP that none of the oval boys are gonna want to touch their parts, even if they're cheaper and better. The only people that would would be young people new to cars, and that didn't know anything better. They'd go for cheaper in a heartbeat. That's the only way SLP will get their foot in the door with this...

how would you react if saleen started to buy up used cameros or vettes and started to tune those? I'm not trying to be argumentative, i just wonder what your reaction would be.

I think I would actually hate Steve Saleen enough to egg his S7!

The other thing about SLP is they are only marketing products for the newer Mustangs. Maybe it's cause none of the Fox body or Classic guys wouldn't even think about using an SLP product.

I'd still hate saleen if they bought Cam"a"ros and tried to modify them. I wouldn't buy a thing from them, for the same reasons everyone else has mentioned about not buying SLP's parts. Hell, even when I buy SLP parts, I don't buy them from SLP, they're too expensive. I get the from a distributor, and save lots of money doing it. His prices shipped beat SLP's before shipping...

Take this for what it is worth, but, I am was and still kinda am a Ford guy. I bought the GN because it fit my budget and lifestyle better than a mustang. but I have never liked SLP, never really had much experence with them though. I personally think that all SLP is wanting to do is make money. no matter what. Now 5.0 guys have there vendors to go to and when things slow down for them they don't just jump off and leave them hangin. Same thing for the GN. just my outlook on it

P.S. I'm also getting sick of hearing every other LS1 guy say that there car has 70 more horsepower and 60 more Ft-LBS of torque just because they have a "SLP" airbox
