Public Service Announcement

Your attention please.

Be advised that there is a potential problem with your Civics that may cause your car to fail to start or kill your battery. The culprit looks like this:

It is one of three pedal buttons and are located on your brake and clutch pedals and actuate critical switchs.

There are two on the clutch pedal arm. The first one acts as a rest/bumper for the clutch arm while not in use and is not critical. The second and critical button actuates the clutch interlock switch.

WARNING! IF YOU ATTEMPT THE FOLLOWING EMERGENCY PROCEDURE MAKE SURE THE CAR IS IN NEUTRAL AND THE PARKING BRAKE IS SET!!!
YOUR CAR WILL MOVE IF LEFT IN ANY IN GEAR!!!

In an emergency you can manually operate the switch at the top of the clutch pedal arm.

WARNING! IF YOU ATTEMPT THE PRECEDING EMERGENCY PROCEDURE MAKE SURE THE CAR IS IN NEUTRAL AND THE PARKING BRAKE IS SET!!!
YOUR CAR WILL MOVE IF LEFT IN ANY IN GEAR!!!

The brake pedal arm uses one button and it actuates your brake light switch. If this one fails your brake lights will stay on regardless of pedal position.

This concludes this public service announcement.

Thank you.

Re: Public Service Announcement

this doesnt qualify as a public service anoucement. Isnt very informative or usefull either. Sorry to be an ass, but who gives a fuck. This is like putting up a thread saying "if you run out of gas, put more in it to fix it."

I got the replacement buttons at the dealer (a special order in my case).

As I later found out the clutch interlock button was the last to fail.
I heard the prevoius owner came home one night and the brake lights wouldn't turn off, this went un-noticed, and eventually killed her battery. That night her brake switch button broke.

I guess the plastic fatigues after a decade or so and falls apart.

Just trying to help my fellow 4th gen Civic owners.
