WIP: Impala 64
Hi!
Time to get yet another build on the go. This time it's Revell's Chevy Impala 1964 and thank's to this forum I tried out a new technique presented here on AF. I can't remember who posted it, but who ever it was, if you read this, the credit is all your's for a very slick way to put in a carpet. This is where I'm at for the moment and what I've been up to so far. Red with white/red interior. The colour on the body is Tamiyas Italian red from the can. As you can see my camera doesn't like red as it always looks more orange than red Well, most of you know how that hue looks anyway so you just have to use your imagination to see the right colour.Still needs to be polished out and get some brighwork done, all in due time. ![]() Layed in a the carpet and dry fitted the interior pieces to keep the rug in place until the glue settled. ![]() ![]() ...and then it was time to get some colour on the carpet. Mixed flat red enamel with some burgundy red to tone it down a bit and I think it turned out great. ![]() Hopefully there will be no problems with the paintwork and it'll keep being a smooth ride all the way to the finish line. That would be nice for a change Here's the inspiration for my set-up. ![]() Niclas |

Re: WIP: Impala 64
That interior looks great--interesting method on the carpet, what is that material exactly?

Re: WIP: Impala 64
Thank you guys!
The material is those wet tissues you use for baby care when cleaning up the mess they ususally do several times a day Be sure to get one without any lotion or oil in them. The one I got is only containing perfume, alcohol and water. So I just nicked some from my daughters bag and left them dry out. What you have left then is a very smooth and soft kind of fabric, although it's made of paper. Feels and looks like it's a real soft fabric though. The only thing I will do different next time is to use some kind of rubber glue instead of white glue as I believe that the tissue want suck it up as easy. 'til next time.... Re: WIP: Impala 64
Fascinating... I have to give that a try--it looks almost as good as flocking!

With the mixed results I get from flockin this is far better and this is the first time I try this so it can only get better with more practice. Thank's for looking. Niclas |

Sorry for the long delay! That's the one I've used for my build and this it where it's at for the moment. Got some clear coats on and no matter how I do, there's always a stray dust speckel on the loose. Well nothing a little polishing can't take care of. Pretty satisfied with the emblems now that the clear is on. ![]() ...and here is the body in all it's shiny glory ![]() ![]() 'Til next time Niclas |

Re: WIP: Impala 64
By seeing this thread, you've given me motive to try and put mine together
. I own a '64 Bel Air (sister to the Impala but only has 2 lights on the back versus 3 on the Impala.) Many years ago I received the same kit as a gift because I was,( and still am,) in the process of restoring mine. The gift bearer was unable to find a Bel Air version and thought that this was the next best thing. Maybe I'll finish mine before I get the actual car restored Let us know as you progress.
