I have a 95 TC and my husband lost the keyless entry remote. We never had the keypad code. When we bought it they didn't know it. We were just not locking the door until we could find the remote. Well I went out to get in the car this morning and opened the door and the alarm went off. It finally stopped but when I shut the passenger door it went off again. I pulled a battery cable off to get it to stop. I couldn't start the car or anything. Does anyone know what I can do? I know I need a new remote, but is there any way to get the door keypad code? Or reset it or something? I can't really afford big money out of pocket right now, and really need to use my car...Thanks a million, amanda

Re: Please help, I can't start my car, lost remote..
Put your door lock key in the door and lock and unlock with the key. That will allow you to crank the car. If you do not have a door key you are going to have to find the relay for the door lock. See messages below on how to change the door lock code it may help in finding the relay with the numbers on it . Lots of luck

Amanda...
Open the trunk.... Look at the right side support arm that's holding the trunk lid up. There was a small, white, rectangular sticker put there by Ford. There's another way to get the code if it's not where Ford put it, 'lemme know if that's the case. There's 5 numbers on that sticker. That's your "permanent" keyless entry code. With that code, you can enter the car, operate the keyless entry system, open and close locks and trunk, and enter a few options into memory, depending on your installed equiptment. You can get a remote control off eBay relatively cheap depending on current demand, I got four of them for around $12 each. Make sure you bid on the ones advertised for your year. There are two styles, a "peanut" shaped one, and a square one. The "peanut" style was factory original and some are prone to failure, and don't seem to transmit as far as the newer square style. Don't pay someone to program these, it's simple if you follow the steps below. You can't damage anything so go for it. If you have "memory" buttons on the driver door master control center, you can also program a #1 remote and a #2 remote to preset Driver Seat, and Side Mirror positions. Example: I'm #1, my wife's #2. her remote moves the seat and mirrors to her settings. When I get in, I don't feel like beating someone's ass 'cause my #1 remote moved the seat and mirrors back to where I left them. So, If you have those memory buttons on the drivers door, you should also shop for a #1, and a #2 remote. Keyless Entry Keypad To unlock the driver door, and disarm the anti-theft alarm control (if equipped), enter the permanent factory code or enter the owner's alternate code. To unlock the passenger door(s), press the 3/4 button within five seconds of unlocking the driver door or luggage compartment. To unlock the luggage compartment door, press the 5/6 button within five seconds of unlocking driver or passenger door(s). To turn on the courtesy lamps and light all illuminated components, lift either front door handle or press any button on the keyless entry keypad. To lock all doors, press the 7/8 and 9/0 buttons at the same time with all doors closed. (It is not necessary to enter the key code first.) This will turn off courtesy lamps and arm anti-theft alarm control (if equipped). To program a transmitter: Each transmitter to be used with a vehicle must be programmed to the vehicle. Up to four transmitters can be programmed to a single vehicle. All transmitters must be programmed in the same session. 1. Enter the five-digit permanent entry code into keyless entry keypad. 2. Within five seconds, press 1/2 switch. 3. Within five seconds, press any button on the first transmitter. The locks will cycle to confirm successful programming. 4. Within five seconds, press any button on the second transmitter. 5. Repeat Step 3 for each additional transmitter (up to four total). 6. Press 7/8 and 9/0 together to end the programming session or wait more than 7.5 seconds. To program an alternate code: (1) Enter the five digit permanent entry code into keyless entry keypad. (2) Within five seconds of pressing last button of permanent code, press the 1/2 button and enter any alternate five digit code within five seconds of pressing 1/2 button. (3) Enter a sixth digit as follows to indicate operator's memory seat setting to be recalled by alternate code: 9/0--no memory recall 1/2--memory seat position 1 3/4--memory seat position 2 5/6--memory seat position 3 (4) After successful programming, the doors will signal by locking and then unlocking.

Re: Please help, I can't start my car, lost remote..
HI, and thanks ya'll. Steven you were of great help. I also have a 96 Cartier, and programming the memory seats to seperate remotes will be great! However, in the 95 the 5 digit code was not in the trunk where it should have been. Is there a way to get it. With this I could forego going to the dealer today for a remote, and order one from ebay much cheaper. Thanks so much!!! I am so glad I found this forum. I love my Towncars(have 3), but they can be testy at times..lol Amanda

The Control Module has the same sticker on it, or sometimes Ford printed the code number on the module with white ink. The Control Module is located inside the drivers door, so in order to see the module you'll have to remove the Trim Panel. I've heard of one instance where the glue that held the sticker to the module deteriorated, and the sticker fell off and was found below the module in the bottom of the door. I've uploaded PDF's for 1996 Control Module location, and Door Panel removal and installation for you to get. You can Rt-Click >Save As, or simply view them online. Go Here... Clicky, Clicky , look for links to 1996 Driver Door Module, and 1996 Driver Door Panels. Just so you know, if you have a Control Module with NO Code ID, you can open the module and "read" the positions the resistors are soldered to the main circuit board to ascertain the code. ![]() You'll find details on that here, and here. Lemme know if I can be of further assistance. ![]()

Hey Swifty.. If you're referring to your 2001 Pontiac Grand Am, you're in the wrong forum. Hop over here for help with that. If by chance your talking about a Town Car... Give us the year please...

Actually no, I am referring to a Lincoln Town Car '95 that a friend of mine has. The situation has been described accuretly and he was hoping there is a master code or something so that he doesn't have to check the soder points on the actual mechanism itself.
As far as my Grand Am I have been very succesful with just searching the forums for the answers. Seems that most people have a similar situation and I just pick it over to find the answer. Saves time and space on all of you here to not have a repeat post. Would like to post though that you guys run a phenomenal forum here that I recommend to everyone I know. |

You've most likely noted bdklein's writeup on Changing your permanent code by now -- his process describes how to "read" the permanent code noting where the 5 resistors are soldered. There is no "master" code for these, their all (within 3500 or so, combinations) different. I did read somewhere where a dealer could connect his diagnostic machine and read the code, but that was in reference to a 2003 Town Car.
