Porsche GT1 EVO [long progress]

so yea... this is the Revell kit. Revell decided to sqeeze all the parts in a box too small so i had a bent side panel and bent rear bumper. stupid Revell. so i tried to fix it by heating it in water. didn't work. tried doing it over a candle. WORST IDEA EVER! it melted both parts. the funny thing is that after i melted one, i went and melted the other. lol. here's some progress on how i fixed it. i'm pretty proud of myself, cuz i consider myself a noob-ish modeler(compared to some people on this forum) and i was able to pull this off .

i think that if if you sand the side panel and bumper, the only way you'll ever notice the damage will be from looking from the inside. Great restoration work! And i'm a fan of the porsche too, so i'll be watching this closely!

Re: Porsche GT1 EVO [long progress]

thanks! if you look into the intake you can see my putty and plastic work, but i'm afraid to sand it off because i think it might break. the reason i got this kit was because i thought it looked cool and it had nice detail(from what the box looked and said) and i got it for around $7. oh and by the way, the restorations are pretty much done, maybe a little more putty here and there. then some primer and some fix-ups and it'll be done.

Re: Porsche GT1 EVO [long progress]

At least you fixed it!
and I agree with AstroRide44 about getting the Tamiya kit, I have both and the Tamiya has more sharp details and also isn't warped.

Re: Porsche GT1 EVO [long progress]

Yeah...the Tamiya is better....but it's a different car ( '96 as opposed to the Revell '97 ) with a different body. The better choice here would be the UT kit of the '97 Evo although some people on the GPMA Yahoo group think the shape on it's roof is too high it's much better in all aspects than the Revell. Nevertheless.....have fun:-)

Its funny because i picked this kit up for $5 and when i got it home i dscovered the same problems. the body is warped severly. someone else posted similar things about this kit. is it the mold or bad packaging? this kit is a tosser, might use the engine one day though.

Re: Porsche GT1 EVO [long progress]

i think it was the packaging. i think the whole thing was wrapped tightly in a plastic bag, because the box was too small. but it still looked like a real nice kit for less than $10.
