Electronic Boost Controller
ok well i have run into a problem on which boost controller i want to use on my 97 GST, i have the Apexi AVC-R in my RST and really like the way that performs, but i have heard a lot about the Greddy PRofec B Spec II and it seems a lot of people use it and like it... well in my research for the best boost controller i have run into the Greddy PRofec E-01! now i am not sure if it is new or not but i have never seen it before... and my question is does anyone use this controller or know anyone that uses it, cause i wanna know what they think of it and how it performs... also what doesn everyone else think of it? it seems good, it says it datalogs controls boost, and can log 3 others, but i just want the best insight before i go and spend $500 on it! BTW i plan on running about 20-23psi with a TD06 20g turbo, with a Deltagate II wastgate, Spearco FMIC, and a HKS SSQV BOV, just incase any of that info will help in the decision... oh and here is the site and info on the PRofec E-01:

Re: Electronic Boost Controller
Ok well from what i gather about the Greddy e-01 is that the datalogger only works if you buy the Greddy E-manage system and thats anouther 500.
So relally its an over priced boost controller. I would stick to a boost controler and a datalogger, not the two combined. Just my 2 cents. |

Since I've never used a boost controller, do you usually need to change it? I don't plan on getting one with in-car control, digital or not.. but is it worth it to you for another 200 bucks to change it? I don't think i would mess with it once it was tuned.

i think you miss understood my post... i have one in my RST, and i currently just bought a GST, and am fixing it up as a nice street/strip car, now i need a EBC for that car! yea i am leaving the one i have in the RST in it, cause that one is currently tuned just the way i like it so i dont wanna screw anything up with that one...

I read it fine. I mean do you need an EBC compared to a cheaper MBC. im asking if you need to change boost enough that its too hard to pop the hood and turn a screw.

oh i understand now...i guess i read it wrong, my bad! umm well i just like having the control of my boost at the touch of a button, and its nice to not have to go under the hood everytime i want to adjust the boost, i could do it in seconds compared to a couple of minutes!

Re: Electronic Boost Controller
I will seoncd that. While a 50 dollar MBC will run 9s, lol, its a pain in my ass in my humble opinion. I bought a PRofec B 3 years ago and have never looked back. Rock solid boost control (many MBCs require some "tweaking" to get rid of boost spike (not creep!)) is one advantage, and never having to pop the hod half a dozen times to get boost right is another. But perhaps thats just me being lazy
![]() I wish I knew more about the EO1. But I do believe that will datalog boost. Not terribly useful, but it could be in some situations. And it may have the 3 other inputs you mentioend. Even some widebands now include 3 other inputs to allow for basic datalogging. But I believe the true datalogging power is in the emanage, and the EO1 is a graphical interface for the emanage, displaying everything you could see with the laptop or whatever is used to tune it. I dont mean to keep recomending SBR, but I would talk to them. Either Mike Huml (owner), or the guy that installed it in his SRT4. I rode in that car, it has both the emanage and EO1. He will be able to answer your questions and help you decide if thats the right one for you. If you cant find the info you need online that is. Sometimes it helps to talk in person to someone actually running the part... And I have heard of people getting random discounts after they mentioned I sent them to SBR, LMAO. Only a few times but it has happened. In any case, good luck with it. Wish I could be more helpful

ok well i have decided to go with the E-01!! if any of you are interested in it or how it works id suggest picking up the latest issue of modified mag! they have a pretty good article on it in there... but i have done more research on in and found out that you do not need the e-manage to have it datalog! also i has many other things that the AVC-R and the PRofec B Spec II does not have! well thanks everyone for the imput!

Re: Electronic Boost Controller
Someone may have posted in it, realized how old it was, and deleted it. That may leave it up top on the list, who knows.
At any rate, to make this post actually usefull, looks like Greddy came out with a new version of the old stand-by, the Profec B. But its supposed to go to ~40 psi instead of 25-26. Profec B type S, here is a link to SBRs page. http://www.slowboyracing.com/more.php?id=2076& If it really works to 40 psi, at 325 bucks (same as the old profec B), I will be a very happy DSMer... I put a MBC in the car and I hate it

Re: Electronic Boost Controller
Kevin, I just bought the ne Type-S EBC and i love that thing! soooo easy to use! my B-spec 2 got ripped off with my stereo and i went to RRE to get a new one and they said that they had it so i said new = better... lol...
it is simple as a knob turn, and you can dial it in as you are under full boost to get the boost right, then adjust the Gain to get it right under spiking... voila! done! |
