Unhappy 3000 miles and i am down!!

so here is the story. sunday night i was hanging out with some friends and i some other people yelled something to us in the field we were hanging out in. so i decided to show off i jumped on my bike and started to chase them with out my helmet or any other piece of protection on. so after i took off i lost them and i decided to go back to hang out with my friends. on my way back i was going about 50 in a 30 and this stupid idiot in a aztec flies out in front of me. i locked up the rear brakes and layed the bike down on its side, and i rolled for about 30-40 feet, after the bike. the guy in the aztec drove off and left me there luckily though my friends where only half a block away, so they took me to the hosipital and loaded up my bike in the back of the truck.
damage to me=
left and right arms both with road rash.
right should badly sprained
left ankle fractured
left knee rashed up
rear hips rashed up
damage to bike=
2 dents in gas tank
left gear peg and shifter busted
handlebar bent
headlight housing bent
left turn signals busted.

what i learned
dont speed in residential areas, wear a helmet(even though i had no head damage), buy a jacket, and wear thicker pants.
now here are some pictures for you all

Re: Re: 3000 miles and i am down!!

Take the front wheel between your knees... then look at the handlebars... if they are straight when the front wheel is straight, then the forks are okay THAT WAY. Then you have to do a profile view of your bike to see if they bent down or forward or anything. Since you lowsided, your forks MIGHT be okay.

Good to see that you are pretty much okay. It's odd, though. MANY MANY MANY riders go down after abour 2500-3500 miles on a bike. It's almost like a magic number. You start to get your confidence by then, so you want to go and try some new stuff, and that's when it bites you in the ass... someone cuts you off or someone tries to merge into you or something, but you don't have QUITE enough experience to get yourself out of the sticky situation and shit hits the fan. At least you came out without too much damage.

Take it easy, and heal up soon!

Watch out for Azteks?? Sounds like we ought to be watching out for you.
So everytime someone yells something at you, you're gonna go play the biker badass and 'chase them down', speeding, at night, with no gear when you clearly don't have much riding experience- locking the rear brake?? Why are you using the rear brake?

1) Mature.
2) Repair bike.
3) Ride.

Re: 3000 miles and i am down!!

hey wolf i am not the one who ran the stop sign. and i am sure almost every one of you has rode with very lil gear at least once. i am also sure everyone of you has shown off on your bike before most of you just got luckier than me. i know i should have been wearing gear i just didnt decide to put it on. and it was either lock the rear and lay it down or tbone the car with no helmet. so why the hell do you think i locked the rear brake?man back off me you werent there, and i was being sarcastic when i said watch out for aztecs when in reality it is every one.z-fantatic i have a helmet just not with me, but i have not purchased a jacket yet. kill-az it will cost me about 700 when all is said and done and that is with me doing most of the work myself

if you pressed front brake progressively, with high pressure, but not enough to lock it, while pressing the rear, there was a good chance you wouldn't have spilled so terribly. 70-80% of your braking power is in the front. so I am surprised you decided to press harder on your rear brake. newbie riders have the tendency to panic and lock the front.

anyway, riders who decide to ride without gears during their newbie stage, I doubt they'd come back here, report it, and expect warm and fuzzy compassion. There are so many advices given here against it. if anything dude, I think you're the one very lucky.

You locked the rear brake because you're inexperienced. Did you take the MSF class? Did you hear them tell you that you should be using the front brakes predominantly because sportbikes lock up their rear tires so easily?
