92-96 Lude basics....

Hey I am doing alot of research on Preludes right now, but can't seem to find any solid answers.... I am particularly interested in the 92-96 years. I know that there is an Si option for those years, but what does that mean? Is it like a Civic Si, better interior and a more powerful motor? What about VTEC? Parts availability?

The reason I ask these questions are because I am getting an import soon because I can't drive my corvette every day for alot of reasons. I was going to sell it, but changed my mind. I am currently torn between the 240sx and the Prelude. Whereas I love rwd, I already have plenty of that right now in my current car. But originality is important to me, and a 240sx is much more original than a civic, or even a preulde. Honestly, I don't know why anyone would have a civic (no off to owners) when they could have a prelude with 200 or so hp...

i wholeheartedly agree with your statement, "I don't know why anyone would have a civic (no off to owners) when they could have a prelude with 200 or so hp..." :sun: right now the craze is getting a 240 and an immediate engine swap. and it's a good foundation for a tuner car, being RWD and not too heavy, not like our ludes. preludes can be tuned, and can be made to be fast, and even though it's a honda, itjust doesn't come so easily coz the aftermarket support is nowhere near that of a civic. so you'll spend more time looking for parts, and more money buying and installing the parts. but in the end, the prelude is still better than any civic.

about the 4th gen, the si is actually the lesser of the two. less powerful H23 non-vtec 160hp. the VTEC model has 190hp. however, don't discount the H23, there's a lot of potential there. a lot of people prefer it to the H22 vtec in terms of turbocharging. the H22 speaks for itself on the other hand. if you have an H22, chances are somebody with a civic/accord/integra/prelude si wants it. (H23 is in the si models, the H22 is the VTEC models)

so if you're looking for an all out tuner car, i'd get the 240 over the prelude. but if you're looking for something with a little more class, a little more civility, with a fair amount of potential and an all around solid car, get the prelude. my $.02

Alright, thanks. I think I will go for the Prelude Si for a couple reasons. My friend has a 95 Integra LS and sucked water into his CAI a couple days ago and really messed up his engine. He has a hookup that can get him a complete Prelude SiR motor, tranny, and ecu for 2200$. The problem is, that engine wouldn't be smog legal here would it? If not, how would he make it legal? And I think he needs to get shift linkage and engine mounts as well right?

Well I would go with the Prelude Si, and get the same swap. It would be even cheaper cause I'm assuming that I wouldnt need the transmission, ecu, engine mounts, or shift linkage. That should take me from 160 to 220 hp, right?


One last thing, I heard that h22s are prone to breaking axles...is this true?

Answers would be very helpful. Thanks.

I considered selling my lude and getting a 240. I couldn't part with the lude though. The 240 is becoming a huge trend, and I didn't really want to be a part of it. Plus, the 4th gen interior gives me a hard on everytime i get in the car. I don't see myself parting with my lude anytime soon. I get compliments on it wherever I go, despite it being stock. Girls love it. I'm drooling...
