ka-t on regular modded ka

i already dumped too much money into the engine to disregard the parts i already installed. it runs low 15's now.

is it possible to keep whatever i have in there now and still add the turbo? whats the best possible thing i can do to drop my car into the 13's? can i?

i eventually want an 11 sec 240 but i may be able to hold out a lil longer if i run 13s. also i have an auto at the moment.

You can...my buddy had all the NA mods on his car...and was also running low 15's at best...it is very possible to keep all that (well of course the headers will need to go) and still go w/a custom turbo kit...he made his for around 1600 bux and puts down around 223rwhp at 5.8 psi...

Here's his site...check the dyno graph at the bottom of that said topic...his setup is as such

Custom Turbo setup: T3/TO4E, RevHard manifold, 370cc injectors, Hacked MAF, 2.5" downpipe and full exhaust, TiAL 35mm external wastegate

w/that and his TEIN's and his whiteline's...and Azeni's on some new 17's he just got...he kicks much tail at the autocrosses...

His site is:

or email him at

damn he paid 1600 for all that? that could be done for around 1k without exhaust....

but its nice knowing for half the money u throw down on a SR swap and installation u have a KA with more power..........

I would also sell some of your parts on EBAY to get back some money, I bet someone would buy your headers and CAI used.....

sheeeat.... an auto>manual swap will take 1 sec off your qtr mi time? that seems like so much, i might just do that.

i'd be running a 14.4 then... 0-60 in like 6.2. that's good enough for me.

any places in cleveland that do that?? im very mechanically disabled.

is it easy to do yourself?

I don't think a DOHC 240sx with cai, headers, full exhaust system, and a 5spd would get into the 13's..Most people with those mods make around 150-160rwhp..a stock sr makes around 180rwhp and goes into the mid 14's stock. Sr=200hp KA=155hp. You would probably run low 15's or high 14's....

If u want to stay NA, I would get some underdrive pulleys and a ECU. Manual tranny swap, LSD, and sooner or do the basic rebuild with new gaskets and cleaning....I would put in some better cams and higher comp drop in factory KA24E pistons, from earlier years of the engine's use... this would bump up your compression fairly cheap, around 200 for pistons I hear.... probably get you another 10-20rwhp throught the entire powerband. Plus with some cams u would be giving stock SR owners some hell.....modified guys running boost controllers will take u though

Humm okay im not an expert with turbos and such but if I go N/A for a year and do my reg upgrades like pulleys cai and say a Apexi N1 duel, 3" pipes for now, i can put a KA-T in next year and all my stuff will transfer over perfectly with out haveing to take anything out??!!?!? and by takeing things out i mean my pulleys will be okay and my CAI!?!? or would they have to go!?!?

most of the mods that we get from japan are designed for a turbo motor. example

1)exhaust: if we keep the exhuast and add a turbo. normally on a n/a we gain like 5 hp. if you put a turbo on it afterwards, the exhaust would give us atleast 10hp at the wheels gain. so your exhuast helps alot more if you add a turbo

2)high flow cat: ones again, same deal as the exhuast. if you add a turbo you can still reuse the cat, and you will gain even more power since its now on a turbo motor.

3) underdrive pulley: i really love this one. a underdrive pulley will probrably give you around 7hp at the wheels gain on a n/a, if you put that on a turbo, you can get up to 25hp at the wheels gain!!!

you see the reason is, if you add a turbo to a car, it will increase the effectiveness of each mod that you already have by atleast 2 times. for for example. light weight pulleys, it helps the turbo spool up much faster, so you reach full boost much quicker. you will have a much flatter torque and hp curve. same with exhuast, the bigger the exhaustt he better, it has less restriction so your turbo can flow better. that is why i'm gettin a turbo for my KA. i have too much mods on a KA to just throw away for a stock SR. with all the mods i have now on my car in cluding the new iridium plugs, i will gain atleast 35Hp at the wheels on top of the gains that will be gettin at 8 psi from a t04b.

edit: your cold air intake would have to go. the only things that you ca't really transfer over from a n/a to a turbo is the intake, the headers, and thats mostly it.

Ok, I have a quick question... How would performance differ on a KA24E-T compared to a KA24DE-T?
My 240sx has a KA24E but I want to find a KA24DE to turn into a KA-T, If i stick with the KA24E im going to completely rebuild the internals and bore it out.

oooo enough of this

im just gonna stick on some pretty 17" gunmetal rims, new tires, make it all pretty and sell it for around $6500... i'd get it. especially with my low miles and amount of mods i have.

then im gonna whip out 10 g's and buy a souped up ka-t or sr20 off of ebay.

won't that work too??? i would love to pull up to a vette and slam it down.

that could be another option of course. but dont' expect to get too much for your car. you will be surprised. if you ask for too much, your cars not goin to sell, and its only goin to get older. and plus a turbo single cam is still mean as hell. just go too www.240sx.org and you can see that a well built single cam, and you can run 13's and its running at around 5 lbs. very very strong motor.

yea, i could do that but i just put in an intake and header so i'm not taking those back out. i wish i would have known about turbo'ing it before i did anything to my car.

i could defaintely get around 6 for mine, i bought it for 4.2 and that was about two years ago, these 240's seem to hold their value pretty well. and i put over 5 g's in it.

Slam a Vette huh? Good luck, seeing how your car would have to pull at least a 13.5. Even faster if you pull up to a ZR-1 or Z06.
