waiting for triple a right now

So my fuel pump finally died. Its been getting weak the past couple weeks. And that has been the only problem. While waiting we finally got it started by tapping the pump while starting it it and hitting the gas. And now there is a horrible screeching noise coming from under the hood that didn't exist before now. Any one have any idea what it couls be or why its happening all of a sudden like this? And what happened was it drove fine and I parked it. Then fifteen minutes later it wouldn't start. I have a full tank of gas and there have been no other problems. Thanks if anyone has any ideas

Re: waiting for triple a right now

Tapping the fuel pump IE the gas tank and getting it started is a good sign that it is going bad. Usually that fix is best used to get it home or run the fuel out of it. As for screeching under the hood on a first gen Neon usually a loose belt.

Re: waiting for triple a right now

the belt seems fine. and the noise actully seems to be coming from the head, although it has quieted down quite down a bit since driving it to my garage, and while its running now to burn up some gas. its sort of a clicking pattern like it has somthing to do with one of the valves. i think once i finish the pump ill have it checked out by my mechanic. also i need a fuel pump spanner wrench for my 98. and i cant find the tool anywhere. does anyone know of a substitute or way around it?
