Blower Switch

Our 2003 Grand Prix blower switch only works on #3 and above. Is this a blower switch resistor problem?

Re: Blower Switch

Very possible.

The #2 fan speed resistor is probably burned out. The #1 fan speed uses all the resistors in series. If #2 is open #2 and #1 will not work. #3 and higher do not use the lower speeds resistors so they continue to work.

Re: Blower Switch

most likely yes. there are other things that can cause this, but the resistor is the most likely cause.

Re: Blower Switch

i have an issue on my 1997 pontiac grand prix gt blower switch. the blower only works on number 5, i have replaced the resistor, and the switch all fuses are good. the blower motor is fine. also when it is set to speeds 1-4 the headlights will go out and the rear defroster will not function. i have read that the ignition switch may be the culprit.

anyone have any input on this?

You have a bad ignition switch.

Re: Blower Switch

Everything else works in the car, so I am hoping it is just the blower resistor, I would hate to change an ignition switch! Thanks.

Re: Blower Switch

Paulk501,

I agree with Bob (Bnaylor) that you have a bad ignition switch.

kboaz2001,

If you have no other symptoms, the resistor should fix your issue.
