Tahoe won't move

Last night my step mom came home the Tahoe got stuck in the snow in the driveway. She put it in 4wd and it did not move, back into 2wd and it did not move. It does not move at all in any gear, 2wd or 4wd. The tires are not spinning, it just does not move.

My father called me to ask me about it, I live 400 miles away and cannot look at it for him.

Any ideas why it won't work?

Also he said lately when it was shifted into 4wd hi or lo it took a few seconds for it to shift into it.

this could be the transfercase is totally gone...

give more vehicle info yr/engine/how long owner / maintenance intervals of drive train componets etc....

if the transmission or drive tranfercase is defective this is a partial answer...

when a vehicle is stuck , the drive train if not properly maintanted can be trashed very quickly...

the tranfercase clutches will rapidly wear if this fluid is not replaced and level /condition monitored...once these wear out you have no power to the wheels..
