Cool 2005 AWD Vibration

Hello all

Bought this 05 equinox about 6 months ago. After getting snow I was out driving and when the tires start to spin and AWD kicks in I get the really bad noise(vibration) from the rear. It sounds like when you screw a screw in with a screw gun and the bit jumps or the top of the screw strips, that sound it makes..like a impact wrench??? It only happens when the front tires spin and the rear try to kick in. The rear do kick in but it make that horrible sound..any ideas. I have to let go of the gas and try to go a again. It does no matter how fast I take of as soon as the AWD kick is??? any ideas???

Re: 2005 AWD Vibration

I have the same problem! You described it perfect. Any ideas?? I think the back wheel's AWD is not working, sounds like it slips instead of engaging.

Re: 2005 AWD Vibration

My '06 does the same thing. I do know the AWD is working through it though, just not sure if the noise is normal. Next time I'm to the city I'll ask the dealer about it.
Cheers

Re: 2005 AWD Vibration

My 05 does the same thing to, I'm going change the fluid back there to see if it makes it any better, a little bit of noise is normal though. I know that there was a service bulletin on these to change out the rear clutch drum because of noise in the rear end.

Re: 2005 AWD Vibration / Grinding noise

I have the same problem with my 06 with 35,000 miles. Just started to make this grinding noise when the AWD kicks in. The AWD seems to be working just a grinding or slipping noise coming from the rear when it kicks in.

Re: 2005 AWD Vibration

I know this is a old post, put I changed the fluid in the rear diff and about a week later there was no noise at all, fixed the problem.
