Re: Metal coolant hoses...

There are o-rings for the water pump bypass pipe and the heater pipe that goes directly into the intake near the thermostat (the older ones had a quick connect fitting). Both of those o-rings will be in the LIM gasket set from felpro, Along with just about everything else you will need.

Re: Metal coolant hoses...

No, only one of these 0-rings will be in the ms-98003T. The one on the drivers side of the LIM where the heater hose goes in.

The part number for the one above the water pump is 24504709. From what I understand it is a dealer only part number, but I brought that number to oreilley's, he looked it up in the system and was able to provide me with an alternative they carrie.

Re: Metal coolant hoses...

Rich and Bob would also recommend to add a GM small block distributer gasket on the oil pump drive along with the stock o-ring. fel-pro part number 70194. It fits perfect, and will help keep that darn oil pump drive o-ring from leaking in the future.

That is the one I thought was included in the fel-pro kit. I don't know the part number sorry.

Re: Metal coolant hoses...

So you have both o-rings you need?

Are you done with the gaskets? How did everything turn out? Sort of a pain to replace them on that motor isn't it, but not too difficult, just time consuming.

Cool Re: Metal coolant hoses...

almost all done with the gasket swap just have to put a few more things back on and drain oil and fill up with new coolant and oil. then pre-flight checks and then fire it up..with crazy hours my squadron has me working lately only able to work on a couple of hours here and there but should be done by end of the week...oh by the way is a certain procedure I should use as far as bleeding the coolant system or just fill radiator and external bottle and fire up?? not in the hayes manual I got???

Re: Metal coolant hoses...

Some of them 3100's are a Pain to bleed out. I have done LIM gaskets in my g/f's 02 SE 3100 twice and both times all I had to do was fill the radiator full and fill the resivore about half and starter it up, let it get to operating temp, shut it off, let it cool down, and fill the radiator again. That was pretty much it. On a 3400 Impala, I had to jack up the side of the car where the filler neck was to get it higher than the rest of the car, then I had to open both bleeders and add coolant. It took a while to get that one to bleed for some reason. It must have had a big gulp of air.

Also since the pushrods are different lenghts for the intake and exhaust ports on the 3100, befor you crank the starter, put a socket on the crank pulley and turn the motor over a couple times by hand to feel for any contact between the pistons and valves. I have seen people go and start these cars and have pushrods in the wrong spot and the piston kisses the valve and bends it. Now it needs a valve job. I'd rather find out I effed up slowly and be able to correct it before cranking the starter and bending a valve.

Re: Metal coolant hoses...

I checked the pushrods multiple time before i buttoned it up. and made sure even after using my makeshift pushrod box that the shorter pushrods(the intake ones) where on the the intake cylinders so I will be sure but will use socket method to check again because I def. dont want to do this agian anytime soon.
