The tach needle stuck to the very right

Man oh man this 99 Intrigue is falling apart I just had the resonator repaired a coolant leak repaired in last few days and now my tach is broken. The tach needle has gone to the very right or just below the 8K rpm it looks like a spring has broken inside the tach and the need just swung over to the very right and it is stuck there. Any ideas

Re: The tach needle stuck to the very right

I tapped on the face of the tach and the needle moved and fell of the stem. I guess all the dam speed bumps in my area finally did my tach-in. How difficult is it to remove the cluster and fix the dam thing.

If you have to ask, it won't be a piece of cake.

I would just ignore it and keep driving. I mean, have you ever been close to red lining?

You are correct I almost never looked at the tach. Problem is the needle just sitting at the bottom of the dial bugs me now. "Its in your face". I just have to opend the dam thing fix it or just remove the needle

Re: The tach needle stuck to the very right

removing the speedometer cluster is easier then removing a diaper from an old fart. I fixed my tach in less then 1-1/2 hours and that is taking my time if I had to do it again I could do it in less then 45 minutes

Well, since I have never removed a diaper from an old fart, I'll just have to take your word on it. How much did the replacement speedometer cluster cost you?

Rolm,

Did you get a new instrument cluster? If so does it display the correct mileage of the car?

Also, you never responded to the PM i sent you several days ago, is there a reason?

Sorry I was out of town. My objective was to remove the cluster and have the tach repair thinking that the stem on the nidle was broken I just turned the tach needle back to the Zero point with my finger and everything seemed ok, I re-installed the cluster started the car up and everything worked perfect. This is the the 3rd day and everthing is ok. So I can not answer your questions on the odmeter. If I had to guess I would say the odmeter info must be stored in the engine ECU. Getting back to the tach I don't know why it went all the way to the right all I did was disconnect the battery when I replaced the coolant elbo the day before I notiched the nidle I know if this was the cause of the needle to shout to the right.

Re: The tach needle stuck to the very right

Mine did that also after a battery disconnect, try tapping the cluster or slam the dash a couple of times with your hand. Mine fell back and another time after driving a while it fixed itself
