1997 Venture transmission problem

Alright Sooo... as the title states, I'm having slipping issues with my 1997 venture transmission. The problem occurs only from a dead stop take off, none of the other gears slip while shifting. The problem occurs both hot and cold, so apparantly its not temperature dependent. When attempting take off, (when you accelerate the engine), it just revvs like its in park or nuetral (like no load whatsoever) and then it will catch and jerk the vehicle forward real hard (just like a nuetral drop/dump).....Once it catches, From then on, the trans works just as it should. Does anyone have any idea what could cause this??

If it comes down to me changing out the trans for a used one, how would i know which one to put in it??? Everything i read on the internet says that the 1997 model used a 4t60e and then 1998 and on used the 4t65e.......can i run the 4t65e in the 1997 or do i have to find a 4t60e???

Well, if anyone has any input on any of this it would be much appreciated if shared since i'm having quite the trouble. Thanks alot, Sean.

Re: 1997 Venture transmission problem

Mine does something similar first thing in the morning... I put 'er into reverse or forward and it will rev and then begin to move, I dont get the lurch into gear tho.

Good luck on it, I plan on a teardown/ rebuild soon on mine, if I see anything I will let ya know.

Re: 1997 Venture transmission problem

I'll ask the easy question: How is the fluid level? These transmissions will do that if you stop hard and then try to accelerate. The fluid gets forced away from the filter pickup in the pan. Check the fluid level first and make sure the filter has been changed in the last 30,000 miles or so.
