air conditioning
I have 1996 chevy z-71 4wd. the airconditioning won't come on. On the dash there are 2 buttons, one is the ac button, the other is the air circulation button. When I push either one of the buttons nothing happens. There is no power going to either switch. I have checked all of the fuses that I can find inside and under the hood, and they all look like they are good (not blowed). I haven't taken the dash off yet. I was wondering if there is a switch that needs to be replaced or if something (wire) maybe came loose. It seems strange that neither button has power. I had a mechanic put 2 cans of freon in the air unit and it still would not come on. He hooked up a computer and did get the unit to come on with it. But when he unhooked the computer the compressor would not come on. Can anyone help me? I'm not sure what to do next. Thanks for your help!

with your posting I am guessing you have no idea how to repair any electrical issues... with your problem I would find a automotive a/c repair shop... do not use the untrained, unlicensed auto mechanic.. your description of his actions indicates to me he is not to be used on these problems,... If you do have some electrical knowledge and a volt ohm meter use this to insure the fuses are good...it is also possible a relay , or even the control switch... what type of a/c do you have manual or the fully automatic temp/fan/heat type...the fully automatic is a computer controlled system..the computer may be defective causing all this.. since the auto mechanic somehow rammed 2 cans of refrigerent into your system this may be excessive refrigerent which WILL cause a lot of expensive damage when that ac compressor gets to run.. having a shop qualified to make these repairs is best..make sure that they know about the added refrigerent.. |
