I just bought a 2001 Lincoln LS last month, 1/28, to be exact, and the check engine light has come on. It's paid for, so it's my problem. I need to pass an emissions test in my state that will NOT allow it to pass with that light on. I took it to an AutoZone the following day and they told me they thought it was the O2 Sensors. I can't remember the codes the guy told me were on it, but I took it to another place yesterday and this guy tried to tell me that it was showing P02 and P04 codes, which he stated were "common in Fords." He said that he thought it may have been the gas that the last owner used. Since I have had it, I have only put 93 Shell gas in it. He took the light off (which popped right back on last night) and told me to continue to use the same brand and grade of gas, but that he didn't see anything wrong with it.
Now, I am female and have limited knowledge of cars, but I thought if it showed a code, that something had to be wrong. PLEASE HELP! I see there are experts that visit this site, so I really need some valid advise. If needed, I will take it somewhere else to find the exact codes. I really, really like this car and I just want it to pass emissions so I can get tags for it. PLEASE HELP ME! |

Re: 2001 LS with Check Engine light---PLEASE HELP
Welcome to the forum!
P02 and P04 are not the correct code numbers. Were they maybe P0302 and P0304? The codes should have a letter followed by 4 digits. Is your car a V6 or V8? I'll be away from my computer all day tomorrow (going to the Chicago Auto Show) but others will need the above information in order to provide much help. If the codes were P0302 and P0304 search the forum for keyword "misfire" and you'll likely find the information you need to know to understand what it will take to fix the issue. -Rod |
