1989 ford ranger timing belt

I believe that the timing belt has broke on my ranger, going down the road heard a pop and that was it, turns over real easy now, I need to take off cover to confirm, anyone ever done this??? Any tips or tricks??

You might have to take a motor mount loose to get the cover off. Instead, look in the oil filler hole with a flashlight while someone turns the engine over. If you can see the valve train moving the belt is all right. No movement-busted belt. Autozone has good on line information under repair tips.
