Should be on a placard in the glove box.

Re: 88 k2500 silverado

My '88 K1500 has 3.42s, listed as GU6 on the glovebox decal.

G80 is limited-slip, which would be very welcome but alas is not installed.

I think 3.42 is the standard ratio in K-trucks with a ten-bolt 8.5 ring-gear axle.

3.73 seems to be the standard ratio in K-trucks with the 14-bolt 9.5 ring-gear axle. That's GT4 on the glovebox decal. Again, locking differential is G80.

GU6 = 3.42 gears

G80 = Locking rear differential

Locking rear differential has NOTHING to do with locking hubs.

Wish mine were G80; although there's an astounding number of folks who seem to blow-up the 8.5 ring gear locking rear diff. The 9.5 seems to be far superior.

Keep in mind that the vehicle is more than 25 years old, and the parts it was built with could have been replaced three times by now.

1. Type "GM" and the code into any search engine.

2. Search for a list of GM option codes.
