Crossed Jumper Cables...
I crossed jumper cables while jumping my 1999 Saturn SC. The car runs fine, but a few things went out like the radio, the rear defrost and the inside lights. I'm most concerned with the radio- I really want to be able to listen to music in my car. I tried replacing the radio fuse, but that didn't work.
Do you think it is the wiring or is the radio completely blown? |

Re: Crossed Jumper Cables...
Well crossing the batteries would cause the system voltage to jump to about 24 volts, 12 more than it's made to run on. If the fuses aren't blown, I'd suspect the actual equipment is destroyed.

Re: Crossed Jumper Cables...
I'm pretty sure I can figure out how to replace that. Where would be a good place to get a new Radio? Are there any reliable websites?

Check all the fuses, inside and out before you go anywhere else with this diagnosis.

Re: Crossed Jumper Cables...
Ok. I bought a circuit tester and went through all of my fuses, replacing when necessary. Now my radio and defroster work, but I found something troubling. When I was testing several of the fuses came back negative on both service ports. I have no idea what this means. I know if one doesn't light up then the fuse has to be replaced.
The following fuses gave me no lights(I've included the manual definitions too): Engine Compartment Fuse Box: ABS (Red 10A) Anti-lock Brake System Memory, ABS Relay TRS LP (Red 10A) Automatic Transaxle Line Pressure Actuator TRS 2/TCC (Red 10A) Automatic Transaxle 2nd Gear and Torque Converter Clutch Actuators TRS 3/4 (Red 10A) Automatic Transaxle 3rd Gear Actuator and 4th Gear Actuator Dashboard Compartment Fuse Box: Fpump (Red 10A) Electric Fuel Pump Do I have anything to worry about? Were these not showing active because the car was only in the 'on' position? |
