sounds like a waterfall

my mom's friend says when she starts her van she hears a waterfall. also when the brakes are pressed and the van is slowed the brake pedal vibrates making a buzzing noise. don't know the year or motor or mileage, fairly new has a factory compass any help would be greatly appreciated

I don't know about the waterfall noise. I've never heard a description like that. The issue with the brakes is a problem with the ABS. This should be checked by a qualified tech.

Possibly low coolant level and what you're hearing is the coolant, and air bubbles, being pushed through the heater core when the engine is running. The heater core is under the dash on the passenger side and this is a common complaint when the coolant is low.

The buzzing brakes is most likely due to a problem with a wheel speed sensor for the ABS brake system. The vehicle must be checked out with an ABS capable scan tool to acurately diagnose it.

Sometimes a 'waterfall' noise is caused by a seized fan clutch.... which causes the cooling fan to push far too much air than is required.
