06 impalla overheating / no heat
My impala does not blow hot air (the blower works) untill I hit 60 MPH. It blow cold at idle, with the engine heated up. The heat gauge also starts to kreep above the midpoint when I am stopped.
I'm thinking this would have to be either a water pump, thermostat, or a blockage somewhere (possibly the heater core?). Anyone have any ideas as to how I can figure out which one of these it is? I need to figure out if it is covered by my power train warranty before I bring it in to get repaired (the dealerships charge twice as much as private guys to do repairs around here). -David

Question.....does the temperature gauge drop at 60mph? Does the radiator fan come on after extended idle?
You could have a stuck or bad thermostat and the increased rpm's will push the water thru the stat. Give us a little more to work with, and thanks

I'm not sure if the radiator fan is turning on. I should be able to check that.
The temp does drop back to the mid point when I hit 60. Itsnot much of a move though. The temp never does get high enough to be dangerous. I would be supprised if the fan is not turning on. I'm going to check the coolant level in the radiator before I go home. It coulb be that the level is low, or that there is air in the system.

After it cooled down, I opened up the radiator and topped it off with coolant. I then filled the resevoir to the cold fill line. I now get heat at idle. I'm hoping the issue is now solved. We shall see.

The heat Problem is back. This time, my temperature is holding constant. I'm convinced that the issue is air in the system. Anyone know how I can bleed it? The other possibility is still the heater core. If this lasts much longer, I may get it flushed.

I have a 2006 Impala LT 3.9L engine with 52,000. I just had to have the head gaskets replaced. There is a Technical Service Bulletin issued for the head bolt threads "stretching". Thank goodness for extended warranties!!!!
The temperature was holding steady in my car also but had little heat. ~Nick
