Ferrari 348ts & 575M

well im trying to get back into the modeling scene with these guys. both are Fujimi kits. can anybody tell me why the 348 is pink after primer. do i need to add more or try something different? better pics will follow as progress goes along. I thinking grigio silverstone for the 348, and TdF blue or blue nart for the 575M. questions, comments and criticism is always welcomed. thank you for looking

Re: Ferrari 348ts & 575M

You should always put down a good coat of gray primer before hitting the body with the white. It shows defects better than white and acts as a sealer. The only time that you possibly could use white from the start is if the plastic is white and free from defects, but generally you should put down a gray coat first.

If you donīt have a gray primer you can use a silver color as it works in the same way.

Our fellow forum participant Alex Kustov has put together a very nice tutorial on how to paint bodyshells...

You find it here...http://www.italianhorses.net/Tutoria...aint/paint.htm

He has also done one on priming and prepping for paint that you find here...

http://www.italianhorses.net/Tutoria...mer/primer.htm

Hope this helps you out! Donīt forget to share your progress with us!

Cheers!

Emil

Both colors looks nice to me, not even mentionning how sweet it is to see non-red Ferraris once in a while.

Nice work.

How did you solve the problem with the pink apperance of the primer? I'vegot the same problem with a Fijimi's Renault Megane kit..

thanks for listen!

could you up some photos of 355 and 360 wheels, then we can help you

OliVTEC- i like to think i have Ferrari red-blindness, by this i mean i cant see any of the Ferrari shades of red unless theyre darker reds

RoMaNo93- i laid down a coat of grey primer, and that sure enough got rid of the pink.

Fujimi 355 wheels

Tamiya 360 wheels

The fujimi wheels would be a quick swap, but the 360 wheels might need a bit of modding. thanks for looking

Lookin good man. I'm really diggin the 348...it reminds me of when I was in Jr. High...the 348 had just came out and it was my favorite car at that time.

I prefer the 355 wheels myself, but I also like the stock 348's too.

Re: Ferrari 348ts & 575M

As far as I can see in the pictures (but it might be a fake impression) 360 wheels look too big, I would go for the 355 model.

Earlier in this post someone suggested using gray primer to block and seal the red plastic then use white primer before spraying the color coats. You can also use thinned Zinsser Bin through an airbrush to seal the red. I use the following procedure: 1) prepare the the body for primer; 2) spray a light coat of gray primer to give the Bin something the bit into; 3) spray a light coat or two of Zinsser Bin; 4) sand the Bin smooth; 5) spray primer over the Zinsser Bin (this is very important because the color coats may not bond well with Zinsser Bin); 6) Spray the color coats. Zinsser Bin is a shellac based primer commonly used to seal water and other stains. I also use it to prevent ghost images. It dries hard and sands easily. Bob Downie did an article on Zinsser Bin in an issue of Scale Auto Magazine a couple of years ago. I use his method and it works. I think Bob recommends thinning it with alcohol. But, I use Acetone, which is one of the ingredients in Zinsser Bin, to thin it with no problems. I decant Zinsser Bin from a spray can. It's comes in a quart can, I think. All of the postings I've seen about guys using Zinsser Bin recommend using the spray can version.
