1999 Bonneville no start
Hi, got a '99 that was working fine last night, went to start this morning and the starter won't crank. Here's what I've done since, battery fine, tried the spare key, jumped power to solenoid, car starts and dies within a few seconds. All lights in dash come on as normal, fuel pump primes with key, and the security light flashes only when the key is turned to the run position, and never goes on solid as other posts have indicated (that's what's throwing me off). I"m assuming it's a security problem, most likely the key tumbler, as the car has over 225,000 on the clock. I'm going to check the resistance through the tumbler at the junction near the base of the column next to make sure it's not open (broken). Any other ideas? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks, Jared

it sounds like your on the right track the security system on gm are a problem you may have to bypass the system or repair it in the steering colume it cost around 300 $ to have some one do it but it only less than 20 $ for you to bypass the system

Re: 1999 Bonneville no start
Hello, refering to my Haynes, a white wire goes from "park/neutral position switch" to the "park/neutral pos sw parity in" on the powertrain control module. Scrapper, is this the wire u mention? and where did u cut it and tie to(live, ground or none)?

Re: 1999 Bonneville no start
Sorry for the delay, HAD to go and sit on the 40 and watch the Vikes dismantle the SeaChickens. Back to real life. Yep I did bypass the security resistor. First you have to either measure the resistance of the chip in the key, then you have to remove the lower dash panel (the one above the driver's feet) and trace the two main wires harnesses coming down from the steering wheel. One will have two very small wires on one end of the plugin, they're quite a bit smaller than the rest of the 14 to 18 gauge wires in the harness. Simply cut them off on the column side of the junction block (which is usually held together by an 8mm bolt or 7mm, can't remember) and solder in the correct amount of ohms resistors between the two snipped wires to complete the loop to the computer. If I remember right, they are orange and white. Just cut, install resistors and loop them together with the resistors. Only takes a few minutes.
