Hid conversion kit

I have a big volvo truck 2005 VNL670, and i was serching the internet for a hid conversion kit, but couldnt find any for trucks so i bought a one designed for a car, withe the same bulb design it is H11, 6000k, 12V, 50W. i got it today and i tried to install it, when i connected every thing, and trun the key to the on position, it turns on for about a second and then shuts off agian, so i connected the kit directly to the battery to test if the bulbs were of, they stayed on, but when i connected it back to the headlight harnest it did the same thing,
Can any one please help me solve this problem.

Re: Hid conversion kit

Maybe there's a bad contact in the head light harness. Check the voltage at the harness when key is in at ON. Also, check continuity between +12V and harness. Cause it should work in normal situation.

I've a question for you. Everything in a semi truck is powered on 12V except the starter operates on 24V, it's that correct? BTW, Volvo truck are my favorite; nice look.

Re: Hid conversion kit

i tried this for a temporary solution, the lights work perfectly when i connect them to the high beam harness. So bought another low beam harness, cut the wire and connected it to high beam and put it through the low beam low beam hole. and just took the low beam and put them where the high beams are, so when i turn the low beams on high beams work, and when i turn the high beams on low beams work.

not good with electricity, for some reason the light only worked with the high beam connectors not the low beam...

I'm not sure if I understand what you do. You mean you connect one wire of the HID lamps to the high beam and the other wire to low beam? Why you don't connect the lamp between low beam and ground? Because you want that the HID lamps operate on both low beam and high beam?

You mean it's the opposite? High beam and low beam are inverted?

I think I know what is your problem (if I understand what you do). When low beam are off, the voltage is not 0V; it's open circuit. It's why it doesn't work.

I'm good with electricity, but I need a schematic to understand it correctly.

Re: Hid conversion kit

ok its a bit confusing..
for some reason the lights dont work with the lowbeam connectors, but they work with the highbeam connectors, so all i did was connect the hid lights to the high beam connector, and then the low beam connector i connected the highbeam lights.

So now for my low beam i use the highbeam button and for the highbeam low beam.

Re: Hid conversion kit

Ok, now I understand.

I think your HID lights needs full voltage to operate. On the low beam connector, you may have less than 12V (cause it's low beam). Check voltage on both high beam and low beam connector to compare.

If you have less, it's possible to add a booster voltage circuit on low beam connector.

Re: Hid conversion kit

You can get it from an electronics part store. Be sure that the circuit meets the input, output voltage et output current.

input range: 6-15V (or more)
output: 14V
current: 10Amp (or more)

If it doesn't provide enough current (eg: 5Amp), you can get 2, one for each bulb.
You can add many of them in parallel to have the good current.

Before, be sure that voltage is the same at hi beam and low beam.

These devices are know as "DC-DC converter" or "step-up converter".
