Re: 3.4l d.o.h.c

What Elements do you need for a fire?
Air, Fuel, Ignition, and Timing.

This is a 1992 with a OBD I system, so there's less codes.
The backfire tells us, that you do have some fuel, and fire.

Doe's this car have a MAF sensor?

Re: 3.4l d.o.h.c

1995 and newer have OBD II systems, these codes can help us troubleshoot.
Old School Troubleshooting -
1) How many miles are on this car?
2) How many miles are on the old plugs & wires?

Re: 3.4l d.o.h.c

1) Car has 142000 miles
2) Plugs and wires were changed about a month ago
Recently have done:
-timing belt (replace idler pulleys, tensioner, and hydraulic tensioner)
-replaced o-ring for distributor drive unit
-head gasket on rear bank

Re: 3.4l d.o.h.c

Did problem start before or after changing timing belt? This car has the predecessor to the MAF which is the Intake Air temp. sensor.

Re: 3.4l d.o.h.c

Problem started 2 weeks after the belt was changed. Car ran perfect. shut it down, went to start it the next day and it wouldn't start

Re: 3.4l d.o.h.c

It's all about timing!

1) Verify and check your timing.
A loose tensioner, could of caused the timing to jump a tooth.
