2nd gear pop-out issue
Hello,
I have a 2001 DX coup with standard transmission. A few days ago I had a problem that persisted for the entire day more or less. Basically, the shifter was occasionally poping part way out of the second gear position when the clutch was engaged (I mean pushed in). This would obviously lead to some nasty grinding when I fully let the clutch out. Let me give an example to make clear exactly what was happening. *********EXAMPLE*********** Say I'm drving in second gear. I begin to do a slow U-turn, so I ride the clutch a bit since I'm going slow. The U-turn is completed and I release the clutch. At some point the shifter popped part way out of second gear but not fully back to neutral. Note that I never once touched the shifter. *************************** Has anyone else encountered this problem before? Any ideas on what the cause could be? Thank you for your time, Josh |

Re: 2nd gear pop-out issue
i dont know much about trannys but my dx tranny when i had a d series in my ed6 it got to the point in third gear if i let off the gas it would pop completely out of gear, it would stay in as long as i was on the gas. a friend of mine told me it was the syncros but i never had any grinding so im not sure.

Re: 2nd gear pop-out issue
I also had the same problem. I found the soulution in Honda Service Bulletin 01-081. One of the main causes is a corroded shifter cable bushing. (Honda P/N 54310-S5A-999). My cost was $11.80 and it only took about 30 minutes to install. The following link details installation. http://honda-tekh.livetopic.com/thread?id=4519 Hope this helps. You may want to change the transmission oil also.
