dipstick broken

I have Passat 98 v6 engine. I tried to check my oil level and plastic end of my dipstick broke off. thre is no way that I can get it out. Where it went? To the oil pan? Could it damage the engine? Can I drive the car? please advise ASAP. Thank you.
