Re: running hot

Probably blew the HG. Check to see what color your oil is.

Re: running hot

no i am not losing water and i am not leaking any fluids i thought that it was the head gasket to but my car isn't smoking so i dont think that it can be that. but last night i was working on it. i filled it up with water both in the over flow and in the radeator and started it up, it didnt run hot just sitting there but when i started to drive it, it started to run hot i still think that it is what i orgnially said but let me know if you come up with something else to look at

Re: running hot

Did you check to see the color of your coolant and/or oil yet?

Re: running hot

5 bucks says he didn't.

Do the fans come on?

Does the t-stat open?

Is the rad cap faulty?

Re: running hot

+1 on the radiator cap. They are cheap, and is what lead me to blowing my head gasket on the talon. Is coolant boiling out of your overflow tank? If so you might definately want to replace that. The thermostat is also an easy fix, so I would start with those two things to narrow it down. If you are not burning coolant, and your oil is coolant free (vice versa) then you haven't overheated anything too seriously yet.

Re: running hot

+1

Anytime someone mentions overheating, the first thing I say is change your T-stat and Rad cap. Its cheap, and they probably need to be replaced anyway.

This doesn't, however, mean the HG isn't shot. My coolant and oil are fine, but I'm pressurizing the system and I'm 99% sure it's from the head lifting on an improperly sealed gasket.

Still makes good power, too.

What leads you to believe your head gasket is shot then if nothing is burning or mixing? I suppose if you can watch the coolant in the radiator or fill point and if it bubbles, that could be another sign. Maybe a compression test to see if compression from one cylinder is leaking into another cylinder? Mine was pretty obvious when I saw a steady pressurized stream shooting out between my head and my block, so no troubleshooting there.

Re: running hot

Leakdown and compression testing will determine this.
