WIP:Jeff Gordon's '06 Superman/Pepsi Monte Carlo

***EDIT-------Change of plans! More news soon.......***

Anyway, standard Revell '06 Monte kit. I opened the front grill, roof flaps, cowl, and added a new fuel filler from aluminum tubing. The hood has new underside braces, and has been hinged. The deck lid has been removed, a new brass spoiler added, and more underside details added.

I also removed the side skirts, and will make new ones after the body is painted and decaled.

Here's where it's at right now, ready for base white, and neon yellow.

The chassis is a heavily modified PF kit chassis. I shortened up the rear section and will add the tin panel to seal the back end off in final assembly. Most of the roll bars were replaced with .080 rod. I removed the floor section behind the roll bar hoop and made a new oil tank box. Front end bars and front bumper were also totally re done. Once all the fab work was done I primed it, shot it with my mix of HoK chassis gray, and cleared it. It's ready for detailing now!

Thanks for looking!

Re: Wip:kyle Busch's '06 "cars" Kellogg's Monte Carlo

Looking good so far. Another masterpiece in the making I'm sure.

Looks like I will miss going to Atlanta this year, unfortunately. But I will be at the Night Before Toledo/COMA meeting in Dayton that Friday night on the 10th.

Actually, I'm moving to Dayton around the first of the year.

Re: Wip:kyle Busch's '06 "cars" Kellogg's Monte Carlo

Well as you can see, I came to my senses and scratched the Kyle Busch idea. Anyway, still can do lots without worry about what paint scheme it will be. I haven't had a lot of building time since Atlanta, but I do sneak some in now and then.

Diving back into it, I added Pro tech roll bar padding, new side pad from embossing metal flocked with DM flocking, and a black styrene cover for the oil tank with Pro tech dzus buttons. Front a arms have been painted and detailed with RB Motion goodies, even got the lowers cleaned up and ready to install. Also I got the standard cig foil heat shield on the bottom.

Also got a big jump on the rear suspension. Kit truck arms with an AMT diff. the spring perches are AAA, and I turned the pulleys for the diff pump. On the underside, I added tabs and RB Motion 1501 linkages for the dual stiffener braces. It's ready for plumbing and brakes.

That's all for now!

Re: Wip:kyle Busch's '06 "cars" Kellogg's Monte Carlo

I built up a new fuel line using aluminum tubing and plastic for the stand. Painted it One Shot red, and added some Powerslide Fuel Line decals. I also built up a new CF floor mat. This is just plastic sheet with a lip built around the edge. Covered in SMS CF decal film, and then coated with Future.

On the bottom side, I found a really cool shot of a real Cup car that showed a gold heat shielding lining the inside of the oil can box. So I lined mine with cig. foil and painted it clear yellow.

To fill the space, I machined a new oil tank like my Kasey Kahne car. I added masking tape painted with HoK Molly Orange for the heater blanket, and wired it up. Also added a few oil lines, and installed it.

I know, it's a lot to take in, but hey, I got on a roll!

Thanks for looking guys......

Re: Wip:kyle Busch's '06 "cars" Kellogg's Monte Carlo

I did a two piece fuel cell this time. Normally I get lazy and do it all as one, shot it black and install it. But this time I wanted to do it right. I built the framework from Evergreen plastic stock, and shot it Krylon black. The fuel cell is .040 sheet plastic shot with Tamiya TS 8 red. The Waterman and Fuel Safe decals came from the Powerslide goodies sheet. I was thinking ahead when I drew that one! LOL

Anyway, got it installed and plumbed. I'm doing all black braid on this one. Pro Tech hose brush painted with thinned Tamiya NATO black. Kind of a grayish flat black.

I did a bit more to the rear end as well. Still needs brake lines, but I haven't done anything on the rotors or hats yet, so I'm in no hurry.

Also added yet another heat shield under the seat. This one is just smooth embossing metal. It will be covered by the seat, but I got tired of seeing the spot where I had mounted my painting rod.

Thanks for looking, and more to come soon!

Re: Wip:kyle Busch's '06 "cars" Kellogg's Monte Carlo

Small update on this one too. Still not sure what car it will be, but I'm still trying to make some progress. One big hurdle I had was the rotor hats. A good night machining and I've got four new rotor hats turned and machined ready for detailing! The lug studs will be guitar string, and the PE rotors are from Model Car Garage.

Thanks for looking.

Didn't thought you were a starwars enthusiast

Clay you're a living bible speaking of American's subjects, and it's ever a pleasure, educational and motivating follow your jobs: but with this last machining stuff I think you're really near to perfection, congrats, parts are to die for. I would really pay what needed to mount such parts in a model.
