A while back I posted about an oil leak that I have from the timing cover/harmonic damper seal on my new/rebuilt 98 5.7. Both parts are new. So I am on Rock Auto looking for a Speedy Sleave, which they have, and there are early and late design part numbers. Turns out that at some point Chevy switched to a balancer with a snout that was .015 thicker. After calling the makers of the two balancers that Kragen carries, one does have the bigger snout and it also costs $100 more than the other. I have the one with the smaller snout. So now I figure that the makers of the timing cover are using seals that are designed for the bigger snout hence my leak. Anyone else ever run into this?
The Speedy Sleave, by the way, will add .022 which will easily make up the difference. |
