'90 LX 5.0L Steering Wheel Vibration

Recently I noticed my steering wheel shaking at around 70-75 MPH. It continued to get worse and worse and I finally decided to check for some looseness in the front wheels. The front wheels seemed tight so I decided to rotate the wheels from front to back. I discovered that both front tires had a strip on the inside of the tire about 2" wide that was worn down to the steel belts.

I replaced all the tires (Falken) with Michelins, had them all balanced, and the front end aligned. The shaking is pretty much gone, however I still notice a bit of vibration in the steering wheel at around 70-75 MPH. It's nothing drastic, but it is noticeable.

Assuming the tires are balanced right and the front end is in proper alignment, what else could cause the vibration? The car has just under 220,000 miles on it. The shop that did my tires said all the parts looked good.

Thanks.

I'd take it back to where you got the tires and alignment. Tell them what it is doing. They may need to rebalance the front tires. The only other thing I can think of is that the rim may be slightly bent. I can understand your concern. New Michelins, alignment and balance must have cost you plenty. ~Dave~
