idles to high

wheni start grand am 3.1 v-6 94' the idle rives up and stays there. The idle only goes down when put in gear, which clucks into gear . Any suggestons thanks

Check for a vacuum leak. A broken, cracked or unplugged vacuum line can cause this issue. I would also check to see if there may be a leak in one of the lower intake gaskets since this can cause vacuum leaks as well.

-Idle Air control Valve stuck,disconnected or non-functioning,
-EGR pintle stuck open
- throttle cable stuck and pulling on throttle plate
