wet engine

my bugs engine doesn't run to good when soaked (it raines a lot in southeast louisiana). Does any of you know where to get a guard, that can be attached to the motor cover that keeps out water but will let it breath ???

easy solution

Put a sock in the intake, that should solve all of your water problems and should filter out all of dirt, and if that dosent work take a hose and put a bunch of water in your oil pan. That way you dont have to worry about water getting in the engine because theres already enough there to solve the problem.

Re: wet engine

I have the SAME problem when it rains.... and it's been a rainy summer and fall.... everytime it rains the car won't start and I have to feather the gas just to get it to run. WHEN it finally is running, it's really rough and blowing smoke all over the neighborhood. I THINK it might have something to do with the spark plugs, because if they're wet at all, it would misfire... have you ever had them changed? Mine look pretty old as well, but I don't have the money to take it in and get them replaced because guaranteed it's going to be a $500 job just to replace the spark plugs.... it looks like you have to take off the fuel injector manifold on the top of the engine. I took the plastic cover off months ago. POS... I hate these cars.. they've been nothing but trouble since the very beginning!!

Re: wet engine

/\ you probably have a cracked coilpack or arcing spark plug wires. The spark plus are easy to replace they do not require removal of the intake manifold. You need a swivel spark plug socket to get the plugs out.
