I have an external waste gate on my car and I took it off cuz I thought it would give me more spool and it did but when it starts to spool and right when it hits 14 pounds it starts to cut out? whats makin it do that? and on my diesel i dont have a waste gated turbo so i dont know if i need it on this car?

Re: can I run my tsi without a waste gate?

Do you realize what the wastegate even does? It regulates your boost. Without one it will continue to allow exhaust gases to pass through the turbo and build boost until you blow something up. I cannot see how you thought removing it would benefit you. If you want to raise your boost higher than 14psi then use a boost controller and manage your fuel to run higher levels of boost. And for Gods sake, put your wastegate back on!

Read through this article to better understand your turbo system...

I am still stunned on so many levels by the first part of the post... Fuel cut eh? I think that's the least of the worries at this point. I would be worried about how much boost he actually pushed through the motor so far...

Re: can I run my tsi without a waste gate?

1. Re attach your wastegate
2. Read www.vfaq.com and www.1000aaq.com
3. Read #2 again
4. Buy a boost gauge
5. Don't modify your car further until steps 2 and 3 are repeated AGAIN.

Welcome to AF.
What else can be said that hasn't been said. Attach the wastegate and read on how a turbo works on diesel and regular cars and what a wastegate actually does. Then read more.

Taking out the power steering might be a better benefit.
