R32 Skyline GT-R GpA ATCC Bathurst 1992

Hi All,

Here are photos of my completed R32 Skyline GT-R from the 1992 Australian Touring Car Championship, specifically from Bathurst that year. As you may know this car precipitated a massive change in touring cars in Australia, with the adoption of the V8 Supercars we have today a direct result of the desire to ban 4wd turbo cars.

I used the Tamiya Calsonic kit, as the wheels most closely resembled the Gibson Motorsport cars. Decals are from RooDecals, and required application of a lot of liquid decal film prior to application. In fact, the "Racing" decal on the bonnet was my third attempt.

No problems with the kit. In fact the Tamiya race R32's must be one of the better kits around. I would call the result an homage, rather than a replica, as there are a number of errors with the decals, but I am very happy with the result.

Grant

Photo with the other builds I did at the same time.

And in their new home...

Re: R32 Skyline GT-R GpA ATCC Bathurst 1992

G'day mate, and thanks for the reply. I there are some RooDecals appearing (somehwat regularly) on a certain on-line auction house. I think it may be a hobby shop from Victoria dealing on-line. That is where I picked up a second set of decals (for only ~$14 including postage) when my original "Racing" bonnet decal disintegrated. In fact, if you do source a set of the decals (or any RooDecals probably) make certain you have plenty of decal film. I covered my set with 3 coats of MicroScale Liquid Decal Film, and still the odd decal borke down. Also, I painted/masked the white and yellow stripes, as the decals will not completely cover the red.
Cheers,
Grant.
