Changing oil on 1993 Ciera S 2.2

Hey guys, my girl has this car and I'm trying to help her with repairs because it's starting to not be very safe and an oil change is on the list. I've searched the forum and came up with nothing. I don't currently have the car here or else i'd look under the hood for the sticker, but what grade oil do these cars use? It's also gonna be getting cold here, if that effects what weight I should use.

Also, anything I should be aware of while doing the oil change, like issues or a better way of doing things? I also have access to a lift.

Thanks

For cold weather driving assuming the engine is is good shape, 5w30. Routine process nothing difficult here.

Excellent. I've read that certain years have an internal filter near the drain plug, and some have an external filter by the passenger side front tire? Obviously when I buy the filter I should know just by looking at the filter right?

Correct, I believe all the 2.2's in that year were the same.
